FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. “I can’t read music. Does that mean I can’t attend the Bass BootCamp?”

ANSWER: No. It isn’t necessary to read music to take part in the Bass BootCamp. In fact, one of the workshops, “Conquering Your Musical Fears,” is designed to help bass players become better sight readers.

2. “I’m a beginner. Is the Bass BootCamp suitable for me?”

ANSWER: The Bass BootCamp is very valuable for beginners. The up close and personal instruction will help beginning players receive the RIGHT information at the most important phase of their learning journey.

3. “I’ve been playing for a few years, but now I feel like I’m stuck in a rut. Can the Bass BootCamp help me?"

ANSWER: Everyone reaches a plateau in their playing – a time when they feel they’ve stopped growing. The exposure to instructors, who have conquered their own plateaus and who are now willing to share their ideas, will jumpstart you on the path to renewed development.

4. “How much does it cost to attend the Bass BootCamp?”

ANSWER: The cost for all the workshops, master classes, and two nights lodging is $549. For those who do not require lodging the cost is $499. Special arrangements can be made for those participants requiring three nights lodging.

5. “What’s the schedule of the workshops?”

ANSWER: Since we want the students to have a comprehensive rich experience, we have designed an intense weekend of instruction.
Friday - 12:00 Noon to 8:00 PM
Saturday - 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Sunday – 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

6. “Besides the master classes and workshops, are there any other activities?”

ANSWER: The Bass BootCamp offers various activities that create a bonding experience with your fellow bassists including: Meet and Greet with the Instructors, Jam Session, Closing Ceremony Showcase, and more. Instructors are also available for private lessons during the Bass BootCamp. Also, because of our partnership with the Berk’s Jazz Fest, there are opportunities to hear music by great artists.

7. “I have several basses. Which one should I bring?”

ANSWER: We recommend you bring the instrument you’re most comfortable on. This will enable you to grasp the information without the instrument getting in the way. However, if your highest priority learning needs are specific to a particular instrument, (for example, improving your intonation on a fretless bass or playing chords on a six string bass) bring that bass.

8. “What else should I bring to the Bass BootCamp?”

ANSWER: In addition to your bass, please bring the following: Cable, Music notebook, Tuner, Audio recorder (optional) Note: Video taping of classes will not be allowed.

9. “Where was the 2008 Bass BootCamp being held?”

ANSWER: The 2008 Bass Bootcamp was held at the Sheraton Reading Hotel. The hotel is conveniently located near venues that will host the Berk’s Jazz Fest performances. For more information on this exciting 10-day festival, visit www.berksjazzfest.com. The city of Reading is also home to great shopping outlets. Check out www.readingberkspa.com for information on shopping, events and other attractions the region has to offer.

10. “I can’t get away the entire weekend. Can I still participate in the Bass Bootcamp?”

ANSWER: Yes. While we do realize that some players may not be able to participate all three days of the camp, we strongly encourage you to attend the entire camp to get the most out of your Bass BootCamp experience. Please contact us for more information.

11. “Is it too late to register?”

ANSWER: If you’re reading this, then probably not. Since we want to keep the instruction up close and personal, we are limiting our number of students. Once registration is closed, notice will be put up on our website, www.geraldveasley.com. However, we are accepting applications until then. You reserve your space when you pay the full fee by check, money order, Master Card or Visa. Register online at www.geraldveasley.com or call 215-472-4093 to receive an application.
